IMPORTANT ENVIRONMENTAL SEMINAR AND FIELD TRIP TO BE HELD IN BUSSELTON ON SEPTEMBER 18 AND 19
The Kwongan Colloquium - a two day seminar and field trip on the natural environment of the south west - is being held in Busselton on the weekend of September 18 and 19.
Organised by the University of WA, this is the third weekend colloquium of this type to be held in WA and the first time Busselton is the host.
Under the general heading of 'Development and Biodiversity - can they co-exist?', the weekend starts with a Saturday seminar featuring 12 speakers on a range of biodiversity topics.
Speakers include:
Greg Keighery, botanist with DEC - the threatened ironstone communities of the Busselton region
Steve Burgess, UWA - future distribution of our tall forests under changing conditions
Rachel Standish, UWA - ecological restoration in the south west - new lessons from old landscapes
Grant Wardell-Johnson, Curtin University - climate change adaptation in old stable landscapes
Don Bradshaw, UWA - biodiversity threats in the Augusta region
The Sunday field trip includes a visit to the Ambergate Reserve where Dennis Cooper will explain the work he has done over many years researching rare and endangered Verticordia and orchids.
Other visits will be made to several of the Busselton ironstone communities with DEC botanists Andrew Webb and Greg Keighery explaining their floral diversity.
The Saturday seminar costs $110 which includes lunch plus drinks and food at the evening sundowner.
The Sunday field tour costs $95.00 includes lunch and bus hire costs.
The colloquium is open to the public with concessional prices available for non-government organisations and unwaged attendees.
